\nAs a sex worker and feminist I\u2019ve always believed in women\u2019s agency over their bodies and sexuality. Yet recently, Instagram (and it’s starting to pop up <\/span><\/span><\/span>on the cesspit – X), <\/span><\/span><\/span>has left me deeply unsettled. The platform is now flooded with short AI-generated clips (usually just 3\u20135 seconds long) featuring hyper-realistic \u201cwomen\u201d in pseudo-sexual, kink related or sexually suggestive acts. Many viewers don\u2019t even realise these are fake. This trend isn\u2019t just creepy \u2013 it\u2019s strongly misogynistic and risks undoing decades of feminist progress.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

The Rising Slop of AI-Generated Pseudo-Sexual Content
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span>I\u2019ve spent years trying to build a presence on Instagram, posting nothing explicit \u2014 no nudity, no adult content, each time my account was deleted. (I\u2019ve finally managed to keep one open, but only by using a normal name and sticking to safe, domestic, white-background photos.) <\/span><\/span><\/span>I get it \u2014 Instagram positions itself as a mainstream, family-friendly platform for creativity and connection. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>So why is my feed flooded with<\/span><\/span><\/span> ‘clickbait’ <\/span><\/span><\/span>AI-generated women simulating <\/span><\/span><\/span>pseudo <\/span><\/span><\/span>blowjobs and sex acts in every other post?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

It feels like Instagram\u2019s moderation has shifted to AI systems that are either overly aggressive toward real creators and oblivious toward synthetic content that evades the algorithms. <\/span><\/span><\/span>This is a huge problem for sex workers. Platforms like Instagram and X (Twitter) are essential for building visibility and connecting with clients. When legitimate creators are suppressed while fake content thrives, it creates an uneven and exploitative environment.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

AI \u201cWomen\u201d from the Male Lens
\n<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Scrolling Instagram today, it\u2019s overwhelming. Almost every other post shows AI-generated deep-fake women in disturbingly realistic clips: grinding\/suggestive movements, simulating blowjobs or sex, public humiliation, implied watersports, upskirting or other demeaning and non-consensual acts \u2014 all careful just to ‘imply’ the action while fully dressed in street clothes to dodge the content filters.<\/span><\/h3>\n

As someone in the sex industry, I have zero issue with consensual adult acts \u2013 including BDSM, submission, humiliation, or rough play \u2013 when women choose them freely. The difference with AI content is stark: there is no woman. These images are created entirely through the male gaze, with no filter, no boundaries and no agency. Created for fast clicks. Men can make the AI ‘women’ do literally anything. <\/span><\/span><\/span>This takes us backwards.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

Eroding Women\u2019s Control & Decades of Progress<\/strong><\/span>
\nIn the 1950s\u201380s porn was often deeply misogynistic, crude and exploitative because it was made almost exclusively by and for men. When women entered the industry controlling their own content, we gained control. Performers could say \u201cno\u201d to certain acts, demand better conditions, and actively shape content that better reflected female desire and boundaries. With fairer recompense for our work came real economic power. The result was more balanced, positive, and authentic erotic imagery \u2014 even when it remained explicit or submissive. AI threatens to erase that progress. It hands total control back to the male lens, removing women\u2019s voices entirely!<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

Real-World Harms\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Many of these clips depict scenarios that would be illegal or platform-banned if real: non-consensual acts, public BDSM, or scenarios involving what appear to be ‘very young’ looking women. Yet they slip through because they\u2019re synthetic and cleverly disguised. <\/span><\/span><\/span>Worse, these clips often link to scam sites promising \u201creal\u201d interactions. Click through and you\u2019re unlikely to reach an actual woman \u2013 or even a real person! Another concern<\/span><\/span><\/span> is whether these AI faces and bodies are created from stolen images of ‘actual’ women. While I don\u2019t have definitive proof, the realism suggests massive datasets scraped from the internet, I’m sure without consent. That raises serious ethical and legal questions about digital likeness rights and exploitation. Would you like your ‘image’ used to perform acts that are demeaning or illegal?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

And let\u2019s not even get started on what they\u2019ll do with catfishing deepfake social media accounts. Without regulation, there will be a flood of fake scam accounts complete with realistic video, not just still images or chat messages. These can be extremely convincing, making it increasingly difficult to determine who the genuine Domme or model is.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Public <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong>BDSM Click or <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span>Rage Bait<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong>AI-generated images that depict realistic-looking BDSM scenes staged in public spaces is particularly concerning. These images often show acts that practicing members of the BDSM community would never perform outside private, consensual settings. Public exhibition of intense or sexualised BDSM play without the consent of bystanders is widely regarded within the community as inappropriate and not acceptable. <\/span><\/span><\/span>When such fabricated images circulate and are mistaken for genuine photographs, they can manufacture outrage against an entire community that already faces stigma. The result is not documentation of actual behavior but engineered click or rage bait designed to drive traffic. This misuse of generative AI risks amplifying prejudice, inviting real-world backlash, and distorting public understanding of BDSM play that, at its core, prioritises explicit consent and negotiated boundaries.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

AI Is Just a Tool \u2013 But Tools Have Consequences<\/strong> <\/span>
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>AI itself isn\u2019t evil. Like any powerful technology, it brings both incredible positives and serious risks. In creative fields, medicine and education it can do wonders. In sexual content, however, it currently amplifies the worst impulses: removing consent, agency, and accountability. <\/span><\/span><\/span>We need better platform responsibility. Instagram must improve detection of AI-generated sexual content, especially when it mimics non-consensual, misogynist or underage-adjacent scenarios. Creators deserve clearer rules, and users need transparency about synthetic media.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n
Exploitation 2.0<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n

This trend gives me grave concerns for BDSM clip stores and fan sites like OnlyFans. It\u2019s not just that we risk losing our customer base to cheaper, endlessly customisable AI alternatives. As women, we could end up losing all our agency, dignity and control \u2013 reduced to competing against perfect, compliant digital fantasies that never say no, never negotiate boundaries and never demand respect or payment.<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

The feminist and women\u2019s movements fought hard for decades so that women could reclaim control over our sexuality and how we\u2019re portrayed. AI-generated \u201cwomen\u201d who exist only to fulfil male fantasies \u2013 without limits, refusal, or humanity \u2013 threaten to roll back those gains. <\/span><\/span><\/span>Sex workers, women and male allies alike must unite and push back. Demand that AI-generated content be clearly identified as such – or, where appropriate, limited to real people who retain full control over how their image and likeness are used. Demand better moderation. Support ethical content creation. And stay vigilant about how technology shapes – and distorts our bodies and our sexual culture.
