Adela T. is actually the pseudonym of English Mansion Domina – Mistress Arella (I don’t think I’m giving anything away here as she openly acknowledges this.) I really enjoyed this book. It had a light touch, a truthfulness, intelligence and humour to it that made it both entertaining and revealing. The book is an honest, straightforward account of one naive young woman’s haphazard journey through the ‘stranger’ outer edges of the sex industry and her eventual journey into the world of the prodom.
Arriving in London in 2007 from Eastern Europe she is working in dead end office jobs and decides to seek other ways to make some money. Staring out offering dinner dates she soon discovers the murky world fetishism, men not looking for sex but who will pay to have their particular fixations sated. As she stumbles through this mire we hear about her clients – some good, some bad, some strange, it made me laugh out loud and despair. (It was obvious many took advantage of this young girl new to the industry.) She also starts to enjoy the sessions, discovering her own sexuality, that she’s a natural exhibitionist and that she rather likes having men pamper her feet.
Through trial and error she learns the ropes ( ;)), to a degree this is everyone’s start in the sex industry. This is not a job you can study about, there are no courses and not something the career officer at school is going to recommend for you 🙂 I loved her down-to-earth honestly about this process, about the money she earns; this is not the usual faux tale of glamour and men who just hand you thousands of pounds for doing nothing. It’s about the struggle, the pitfalls, it doesn’t judge there’s no cheap laughs at the clients just the real humour of the predicaments she finds herself in. Something I can certainly identify with.
I found it insightful (and a little humbling) in regards to the bigger picture of EU migration, here’s an educated, ambitious, intelligent woman who has left a behind a life with limited possibilities and escaped to the supposed ‘golden paved’ streets of London. Her resourcefulness and work ethic are to be admired and are what lead her to a successful, if some what alternative, career on her terms.
The author Adela T. lived in London from 2007 to 2010, but is now based in Prague where she enjoys being a lifestyle & prodom.
